lover's spat
Blessed with the gift of laughter,
the Joker's pun uttered in jest to deliver
his amusement turns to dither,
as he supresses a snicker.
A sweet smile transforms into a scowl,
pouty lips part as if threatening a howl,
and intended laughter comes to naught,
as ears turn deaf to forgiveness sought.
How can fun evolve into sorrow,
an innocent joke threatens tomorrow.
A superficial spat prods a contest of pride
as battle to prevail emanates from each side.
Cold stares ensue, who's the first to blink?
Is this all there is ? what's happened to our link ?
Realizing an existence without the other,
a pulsing hurt is felt like no other.
Oh no, this just can't be.
There's nothing here, without you and me.
So the Joker tosses his last ace on the table,
soup up engine driven as fast as he is able.
Slams on pedals to waken the town,
rouse everyone, tell them he's down,
soon, he'll be forever gone.
A classic ending, he says to himself,
and in a flash, she steps out herself,
to stop him, to soothe him,to love him,
like no one can.
