The day I went away to war
I didn't know what I was fighting for
My country needed me
And I answered the plea
I found a little orphan boy
Amongst so many others I shared a toy
In the mirror I said no toy did I lack
Someday to see that boy I am coming back
I was only nineteen what did I know
The things around me not a pretty show
At home boys my age protested they knew it all
I brought to the orphanage the next day a ball
I wanted to take every Korean orphan home with me
A man or a boy and unmarried it was not to be
So I did my time wondered why I went to war
Sure there were memories in my head to store
Today the dirty roads are paved
Those children in the orphanage no longer slaved
South Korea has advanced to the modern age
I don't care what protesters say I served my country well
Brave Americans are working to set other countries free
And I salute those brave warriors as they saluted me
Brave men do not prance and hide stay in a shell
And if you don't like this country go straight to hell
When the world is threatened they call on us
And on my flag and buildings it is in God I trust
You can tell a veteran when our flag goes by
He stands in salute and wipes a brave tear from his eye
