What The Military   Gave Me, Concept  Of Country

What the Military gave and taught me
Much, a civilian can not see
Who never answered the call
Put out for one and all

So many misconceptions placed
On those with a military face
Though never once asked what learned
By their military status earned

Ask not what your country can do for you
Though many have forgotten that point of view
But yet that old saying still be
Ask what you can do for your country

Country,many have forgotten the definition
As they toss about their own rendition
Of what that word means to the military
Country means you,him,she and me

Country is not planted on capitol hill
Tossing about tax dollars at will
Country, your neighbors up the road
Country, spanning from young to old

And what the military gave me
Is the clarity to understand fully
It's purpose without tainted view
To protect the Red white and blue

Though if I were to state it more right
With brown,yellow, black, and white
This country of vast diversity
Stands on the premise of living free

Yet still in the back of my heavy weighed mind
I carry a burden when military's defined
Hatefully by some spreading false assumption
Using free speech to support that function

My burden is objection to things said wrong
Of my shipmates, comrads, who helped me along
While I served my time for each who is free
To insult The US Military

What the Military taught and gave me
Some things only members will grasp entirely
Never was it hate, or greed or rot
Never on behalf of a government plot

But always in the name of country
Our neighbors, friends co-workers and family
Like many before us who served in the past
We serve our country so your freedoms will last

What would you do if one came to your home
To take away your freedoms you've always known?
Without the military to have your back
Who would protect you if under attack?

You who bash the military now
Who never served your country in vow
Would you risk your life if need be
To enusre your neighbors remained free?

Yes we even fight for you
Military haters and your view
Who speak freely in pure disdain
Of it's protectors Honorable name

Signed United States Naval Vet
