BACK IN THE FIFTIES AGAIN

Who am I to change your mind?
But I am back in the fifties again
A far gentler time
If you were gay
You were happy
Aspirin was the drug of choice
Do wop--you could understand the voice
The Drive in was the place to be
That's where we met you and me
Drive by shootings--guns were for hunting
Drive by---in a "57" Chevy
Steroids, the average lineman 165 Pounds
A forty five disc, Did you enjoy those sounds
A black boy--he might be brown
I cried the day my friend Eddie died drowning
I didn't know he was a brother a friend of mine
Had I been there I would have given my life
There were school fights--strip to the waist with fists
Those that used dope--that's what they were dopers
There's a reason they call it dope
When the country called as Americans we went
Sure the dopers got out their minds bent
It would nice to be back in the fifties again
But there was the seventies a time when---?
Someday I hope the kids today turn the world around
Join their hands together in love give peace a chance
Old man like me I remember the fifties the last dance
