 Runaway Child

They leave with sole intent to make
A life their own, they took all they could take
Beatings that seem an everyday
Occurrence theirs, on back scars lay

Momma knew but was helpless
Watching boyfriend with pants belt less
Swing away like batting practice
From home run quick escape this malice

Abused sexually but whats the point
As mother slept another joint
Would put to sleep what could have been
A safer night as he crept in

Nightmares dreamed but lived each day
Since father left and mother strayed
Into her world of life's denials
Blinded their need, and world theirs spiraled

No way out but out the door
Sleeping on streets, mattress cardboard
Where food was scarce but could be found
In trash cans filled, tonight theirs bound

The winters wind blows cold tonight
Chilling their thoughts added to plight
They move again tonight with hope
To find shelter, to help them cope

Yet still they call momma please come
It's me daughter and once called son
Whose tears will freeze and too body
As death becomes what was somebody

In 2002 it was estimated that 1.6 million children ran away from home.
Most were girls with an average age of 16. There is a national hotline
for runaways to call to. It is for the National Runaways Switchoard ( NRS )
We can all help them by giving them this agencys number. It is 1-800-RUNAWAY

Gods blessing be upon all you who read this today and help a child on the street
