Dear  Captain(letter from your first mate)

Dear Captain:

I write to you today a letter respectfully
In regard to your possible future voyage

I have stayed true the course with you for much time
I have let you steer the wheel as "you see" the seas clear

As you have set forth on voyages and mapped out our travels I have trusted in you
I have stood strong by you while you have guided us across seas both rough and smooth

I have tossed the anchor as commanded and held our vessel strong when you have said I need to
I have cast nets in directions you thought for our gain even when our net came back empty

Dear captain

I would then remind you that we had to give it a throw
As we never know where the catch might be and that it only eluded you THIS TIME and that
You would gain your catch on yet another day

And dear Captain often I would tell you it was because I cast the net wrong
When dear sir a sailor like me knows how to cast it right, for if I didn't you would not have selected me as your first mate.

I have set the sail in directions I may not have chosen because you are my Captain
and I have been your first mate loyal and ready to let you always guide our way

Dear Captain

I never cared to be the one leading our way
And mutiny was never an option in my mind as others you had encountered
Even in those times I didn't really agree with your decisions

I have protected you with sword and shield even when you have told me you need no protection
Because dear Captain while your mind and heart, eyes and soul were set on the sea
You sometimes would fail to notice the dangers right in front of you

Dear Captain

I cannot pretend that at times while you were gazing to the horizon
I didn't take that sword for you and tender my wounds in silence and alone

Today Dear Captain I must speak frankly to you

For some time I have seen our voyages taking us closer and closer towards rocky ledges
Every time you command me to pull anchor and move forward dear sir
I fear that this shall be the voyage that shall end my time as your mate

Dear Captain

I do not wish to take your command
I do not long for all the responsibilities it can entail
But dear Sir As of lately I find myself having to remind
Not just me but also the others on board that you still know your way on the sea

I am not the only one dear Sir that you worry in recent travels
and I must say that my worry is not for just you or me alone
You have been given the lead over an entire crew
And we with full faith have chosen to follow you

So Dear captain:

Today I speak to you not only as your first mate but as your best mate too
I ask you to carefully consider this upcoming voyage you are planning
You're life is not the only life in your hands when you sail us to unsure seas
And dear Captain there are many of us uncertain if we shall journey with you on this excursion

In fact dear sir I write to you today asking you to reconsider the map you have plotted
As upon my closer inspection dear sir you are misguided and your map with an x marks disaster

Dear Captain

I'm afraid if you continue forward with the path you have chosen
clearly mapped out closer to the rocks than ever before
This voyage dear sir is one you must choose to take alone....

Sincerely Dear Captain Your First Mate
