Queensland Wildlife ( Friends and Foes )Some new Australians arrive with trepidation and fear, Thinking about snakes and spiders residing locally here, Adjustments to Aussie lifestyle, a new culture change too, Soon teach the new immigrants what's more important to do, Orb spiders are large with their nocturnal spinning done, By morning they have eaten their web and they're gone, Large Huntsman are ugly, a look only mothers could love, However they hunt more for mosquitoes in the corners above, The Funnel Web spider, is aggressive and poisonous too, Its respect needs to be earned their reputation is true, The Redback or Black Widow depends where you belong, Handle them with gardening gloves or crush it with a thong, Praying Mantis our friends, they keep my garden clear, They devour most of the nasties on plants that I rear, Crawling ants are common with some on the wing, Beware in the garden for bull ants have a nasty sting, Snakes left alone will treat humans with respect, Unless they're threatened or subject to neglect, Leave them alone or you may confront the demon, We have top five snakes with the most toxic venom, I have handled some snakes, and love how they feel, But dangerous serpents need distance that's the deal, Lethal snakes like Tiepans, tigers and the Eastern Brown, Do not appreciate we humans in their natural playground, Our glorious wildlife contain creatures so unique, Like Koalas and Kangaroos, and their marsupial clique, The Emu and Platypus or the crocs and the sharks, Are there to be appreciated in our oceans and parks Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
