My Big Sky

Once blue, now grey… my big sky
green now stripped from the trees
clouds over every horizon
so many people to please
tiredness overtakes my emotions
as boredom intersects with time
glances looking out every window
seeing children all waiting in line
lost too war… many good friends
their ashes now free in the wind
hope once more disregarded
where winners and losers both sinned
mountains once climbed… feeling pointless
orchards and flowers stripped bare
trying to see what's before me
but darkness blights everywhere
loves and loss I've lost count now
reasons seem always unclear
another place, another world, another life-time
once more I lose what's most dear
sublime interactions bring quiet solace
the bright lights scare me away
to much very close interaction
while the fools in my life have their say
searchlights always out… still searching
death only counts the lost souls
no one ever leaves love a message
rage never far from control
the wilderness home to my memories
oasis bearing fruit and good cheer
someone I loved long departed…
once more I'm drowned in their tears
wild men and wild beasts have I battled
but trophies never claimed in my name
my heart and my soul soon devoured
knowing nothing of love will remain
yet still I look out at my big sky
and my eyes always see it as new
and each day I ask of the good lord
that tomorrow may my big sky be blue?
