 Painting the shades of winter

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The red blushes on my cheeks and my lips of blue
My silent white breath that speaks of nothing new
Today i return only as a visitor
Painting the shades of winter

My Crystal tears that fall, dampen the virgin snow
The brown scarf hides things they will never know
The scratches, the bites and burnt blister
Painting the shades of winter

The yellow bruises shine like the sun
When i left him, i found another one
The neighbours said "i never knew he hit her?"
They were too busy. Painting the shades of winter

This poem was written whilst i was doing my social work training between 2002-4> It's a poem about domestic violence, and conversation i had with one of my clients, one cold miserable winters afternoon in South London, whilst on my social work placement.
