WHISPER
My sanctuary, my album of memory
the wellspring of history
fails to duplicity.
Flung from wonted kinship into an ersatz pool,
knowing no survival rules,
feeling surrender's pull,
taking on water, flailing arms, unsteady feet
sinking into disbelief
pleading rescue's relief.
Bystanders retreat in chilled absence of regret,
conjuring no conscience yet,
recall no former debts.
When bonds of strength unwind within a demon's call
fragile veils in time withdraw
facing foundation's fall.
Vessels in which the rages of sin manifest,
masquerade its vile distress
ensnaring the inept.
Drenched in power, greed and hatred, the three-fold plan
slights the Word of God to man,
takes an impostor's stand.
Peace, silenced in the fog of unfaithful contempt,
neither friend nor kin exempt
when loyalty goes limp.
Gazing at the drowning of the forsaken ones,
the concerted deed is done,
so chants the idol's son.
At the deep end, all is gone but one Whisper sweet
repeats freedom's guarantee,
all are secure in Me.
Demands I stand in the midst of the miry fen,
its truthful grasp weak and thin,
fearing faith's fated win.
When I resolve to stand the Whisper sings along
the words of victory's song
the table remains done.

Psalm 23:4-6 [LB]
Even when walking through the dark valley of death
I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me,
guarding, guiding all the way.
You provide delicious food for me in the presence
of my enemies. You have welcomed me as your guest,
blessings overflow!
Your goodness and unfailing kindness shall be
with me all of my life, and after-wards
I will live with You forever in Your home.
