I DON'T WRITE LOVE POETRYNot at least of loves lost or to heal broken relationships But if I did: The girl in the second grade That I held a crush to Junior high The one who said, "You are the last I would date." Foolish girl, no tear for you will I cry But that pretty young girl I left behind when I transferred schools I didn't know you cried for a month And I hadn't forgotten you I came back Glad you are married now and found a neat husband And two girls I met the same day I only saw you once leaving for basic the next day I couldn't fall in love in a letter like you So when I wrote deceased I thought that the end This is foolish things young boys do. And as you should you both moved on But the messages you left I know there was pain And that pretty girl I worked with every day in Central supply I do regret writing deceased on your letter. That you flew to comfort my Mom and saw me in the front yard hugging my sister How could you know--that the Doctor gave me five years to live and he was wrong and I didn't want you to hurt comforting me my last days Forty years later it was just food allergies This is as close to writing love poetry as it gets You can forget him or her if it is not meant to be And girls the men you met what a lucky guy he This is the closest to love poetry from me Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
