Keeper Of The Flame
Email Poem | Today's Poetry

Try to remember me kindly if I drift too far away,
Maybe a fond word or two, if only you would.
As for myself, I really don't know what to say.
I know I would use the best of phrases, if I could....

You put all the cards on the table, I didn't want to play.
The game had lost its savor, at least from where I stood.
I know deep in my heart I will come back some day.
You certainly must admit we weren't doing very good....

But if I got a letter from a friend of yours sometime;
...If she wrote words that convinced me you still cared,
I know they would have an effect on this heart of mine,
And if she said you still loved me, well...if she dared....

Always heard about heartstrings, don't know where they are,
'Tho something holds tightly to me, keeping you in my head,
And it ain't caused by all the booze I soaked up in the bar.
Fools like me run away from places angels love to tread....
