The Silence

The silence, no longer sweet to me
no children's laughter welcoming the day
only whispers lost to my memories
hearing only silence with nothing to say
thunder roars and lightning strikes
bright flashes soaring through the sky
darkened clouds with so many storms
are all now that ever pass me by
night-time comes and the darkness screams
while I hide in the shadow of fear
reaching out… always reaching out
but only ever finding more reasons for tears
life carries on, though my heart has gone
for I gave it all, and saw it all… thrown away
once the silence sweet, so very good to me
now a prison where only I may stay.
