in 1975:
i was proud to be alive
in the winter sports banquet then:
now im thinking way back when:
i was co-captain of the swim team:
to be an olympic champion i did dream:
i dreamed of glory then:
now thinking way back when:
i started swim team in 6th grade:
i'll remember the good friends i made:
we worked hard at swimming every day:
but there was always time to play:
i practiced hard and never quit:
but i never was the best i had to admit:
i always dreamed of winning in the race:
and felt so bad when i came in last place:
but i kept my pride:
and i took it in stride:
i may have been last:
but the dream it never past:
then one day there was an event:
where all the swimmers were sent:
who ever could stay afloat for eight hours straight:
if you did it a trophy you would rate:
100---kids all started that:
but only five made it a matter of fact:
i was one who made it all the way:
and im still proud of that today:
i worked hard and i never quit:
i knew that i could achieve it:
i always dreamed of winning a race:
and now i finally found my place:
i competed in sports all through my school:
i never had to act like i was cool:
i dreamed of glory and olympic gold:
and still today those dreams i hold:
to know im the best in what i do:
and stand tall and be humble too:
i always dreamed of winning in the race:
and felt so bad when i came in last place:
but all through school that dream stayed with me:
and i believed i'd achieve it you see:
at the winter sports banquet of my 12th school year:
i looked in the audience and saw mom and dad in tears:
the coach sain the countrys now in good hands:
jungers has joined the marines to protect the land:
we want to give a special award to him this year:
he's the most dedicated athlete wev'e ever had here:
then the team all stood up and clapped out loud:
i looked out front and people were standing in the crowd:
a standing ovation they all gave to me:
thinking back--shivers run down my back you see:
that was the proudest moment i have ever known:
i'll always remenber the respect i was shown:
i always dreamed of winning a race:
and finally i found my place:
