Those who have read my poetry know
Beneath the lines of success
I started far far below
Dad when not drunk delivered coal
Boy growing up I had no plans
To find any work was my demand
Discovered college just to play basketball
Injuries an Associate degree and all
So when my sons said dad,
"I am going off to College."
I well help all I can in your search for knowledge
So proud was I when he finished law school
Success is his he even taught some law
But now comes the pride from his paw
Today I asked my Granddaughter what is all this
The question I could not resist
"Didn't you know? Dad goes to high schools
Those that have kids in high risk
He talks to kids tells them they can all succeed
And show from the smallest start their need
The start to success has to have the smallest start
So you bawling and living poor with broken heart
I am a father who had just average needs
But to start a garden someone had to throw out the seeds
To raise my family I worked twelve hours a day
So to hear what he is doing family pride I must say
