Our Grand Old ManFirmly my tiny fingers gripped his hand Rambled slowly as we surveyed his land Assured that always I've a place to stay Nothing to fret when he passes away Couldn't comprehend the quoted saying It was from old volumes he was chanting Some immortal lines from the bards he loved Comfort for the soul that had seen enough Of life there's time to cry and time to laugh Lavished with kindness that gushed from his heart A tale for offspring someday I'd impart Nobler traits for his kindred was his wish Guide to divert the paths from evil ways A cry that his clan upholds his emblem Mess not our name nor tarnish it with shame Intent of his heart we must contemplate Neglect foolishness to avoid defeat Long-suffering, patient and kind means love A verse most ignored but we must grab Undaunted by obstacles that might come Gracious to accept them, sigh but be calm Along your journey as you walk each mile Nestle in your mind our old man's style.
