You see a young Airman standing
Just boy really--that was me
Taking a patient to Seoul
Behind me that's Inchon below
It was a nice sunny day
Decided to see some sights on the way
A few things that Mom's don't want to know
Later in the day in our ambulance
Found us in a less pleasant circumstance
You see Korea's President was leaving town
Some were not happy he would abscond
Not sure mad at Americans yet we they found
Rioters burning the streets and they saw us
Jumped with sticks and stones from their bus
Soon there was fire tipping the ambulance over
When they found our patient a Korean child
He yelled out in Korean, "Leave them alone!"
Some of those most angry changed the tone
Riot police came and said, "Get back to base!"
Some fond memories I like to erase
But you see me in the picture standing there
Thinking of home I didn't have a care
Poem would be what was I thinking at the time?
Surely not a future then of finding rhyme
Today I hear Korea is a completely different place
That man trying to burn and turn over our truck
Today a man like me is out earning a buck
Bless all those soldiers out protecting us
For not all come home safe they do a job
It was a frightening day I faced the angry mob
Mom when she got the picture said, "My but,
what a beautiful peaceful village, always that way?"
Mom's worry, so I only answered, "It was a nice day."
