FOLDED GREEN PASTURES

FOLDED GREEN PASTURES

Past folded green pastures and curving steep hills
Lies an accordion of lush valleys and babbling rills
Peach trees and honey bees, a few of nature's frills
Lantern lights on dark nights; fires to quell the chills

Summer days and fishing poles; cotton candy fairs
Wrap-around porches cradle old rocking chairs
Winding roads and wheat fields; Sunday church affairs
Dinner bells, wishing wells and tuck me in prayers

Twilight's musicians, strum a cricket's lullaby
To the silhouetted scarecrow in a cornfield close by
A midwife wears a happy smile, baby wears a cry
Gentle touch of country running through the rye

Pour a sip of countrified, gently stir your plans
Whittle out a summer's day, hold it in your hands
Paint a little farming town, a gathering of the clans
Farmers seen at daybreak, plowing hinterlands
