As I sit and ponder
out the window yonder
What Memorial Day means
Those lost in fighting wars
And those that would second guess
It matters not the side we pick
For in a coffin a hero lays at rest
For he has taken on a challenge
That not all of us would dare to take
Evil thinking foes don't rest at night
And a warrior for us must take up the fight
I remember a man once saying to me,
"War to me is never right!"
That to me is a personal choice
Surely not the words I would voice, and say
"To be free someone must take up the fight!"
So go on my friend in the end take flight
So on this weekend God bless those men
And should it be in a coffin they kiss home
All those who defend all my respect is shown
Thus given only one life we have to live
Praise the soldier what they for us have gave
And place a flag of gentle love upon the grave
For those who proclaim, make a different voice
A Warrior gives freedom a right to rant their choice
