steamboat days

every summer when the weather was hot and humid:
there was a great event we lived for as a kid:

it was the annual steamboat days and the carnival came to town:
at the carnival every kis could be found:

i remember all the blinking lights:
looking so bright in the middle of the night:

the loud music and activity everywhere:
oh yeah as a kid we spent our fortunes there:

on all the carny games they tried so hard to lure you in:
saying this great big teddy bear you could win:

with a baseball you had to knock down three bottles thats all:
but the bottles were so heavy they wouldnt fall:

or they had darts you threw at a balloon:
then whatever the prize was they said you might win it soon:

there were yellow baby plastic ducks floating around:
if you picked the right one the grand prize you found:

but what we loved the most and spent most of our time:
were the cranes which cost a dime:

we spent all our money and time operating the carney crane:
trying so hard to bring home the prize in the window frame:

the tilt o wheel ferris wheel and merry go round:
were the usual rides every year that we found:

the scrambler and the zipper were fast rides that one year came:
to ride them i thought you had to be insane:

candy apples and cotton candy;
to a kid was just dandy:

we had so much fun we really did:
at steamboat days as a kid:
