iron cross

the iron cross;
stands to remind us of loss:

its in memory of a man:
that the iron cross strongly stands:

my uncle pete was a world war one vet:
in that war his death was met:

that iron cross has stood through many a starm:
it looks now so rusted and worn:

but that cross still stands with pride:
by my uncle petes graveside:

that iron cross comes to my mind:
as im thinking of my life in minnesots that i left behind:

that iron cross is nearly 100 years old:
but still stands so strong and bold:

i remember that old cemetary way back then:
when i was a boy about ten:

that iron cross is still in my mind:
of my uncle petes life to remind:
