Satisfaction and peace are part of our simple little pleasures ,
With contentment of your soul one of life's little treasures,
The everyday little things can make it all feel very worthwhile,
Start off with a purpose, end a day with a pleasing little smile,
A drive along a mountain track, take in its superb alpine views,
With its all twists and all its turns, letting the mountain choose,
Where the road will take us as we slowly climb that lofty hill,
Or descending a steep and winding route, a challenge to our skill,
Other pleasures are nearer to home, this is a change of tack,
My real pleasure is having someone to lovingly scratch my back,
Just holding hands and being tactile as together we have a walk,
No need to discuss anything as we communicate without the talk
With a cosy cuddle and a “sleep in”, as we caress a new day's dawn,
Watching a cat with its newborn kittens, a dear with its new fawn,
Nature in all its abundance will never cease to amaze and surprise,
Or give us a view of an infinite cosmos from sunset to sunrise.
Being present at the birth of my children, a miracle for me to see,
Holding my wife's hand, as their first cry resoundingly is set free,
Watching them grow through a childhood supported with our love,
They have made their way into adulthood with guidance from above,
The soothing feel of tepid raindrops after a sizzling hot summer's day
The dew drops sparkling through the mist catching dawn's first solar ray,
When something tickles my funny bone and I just laugh until I cry,
At seeing something hilarious and not knowing the reason why,
Looking through old photographs recalling a day caught in time,
Singing aloud an old favourite song by pop groups in their prime,
Being given a soothing massage to ease the day's tension away,
Indulging myself without conscience on a delicious Chinese takeaway,
I love listening to a baby laughing or children playing in the street,
A long hot soak in a soapy bathtub, now that's my personal treat,
Life's pleasures are so simple, that gives them access to our heart,
So let your inhibiting mind relax, open your eyes and make a start.
