Faintly I remember the farm
The river that meandered through it
Bears, Mountain lions in the hills we played
I remember singing, "You are my Sunshine-my"
Mom saying, "let Tim sing it's his song."
Crying because I taught him the song
Fishing in a fish less creek all day long
Barney went everywhere with us
Barked when danger was near--followed beer tracks
Then we moved to the big city
I remember the first television
Eight inch black and white fascinated by test pattern
Kukla Fran and Ollie---Sheriff Tex jaw breakers
I wanted to be an Ice man carrying blocks of Ice
Most of all I love sports any sports
Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, the fighting Irish
We played on an empty lot home plate a large rock
You were really brave if you slid home
Brave it you batted, no one wore helmets
Drugs--Aspirin was the drug of choice for fevers
Indoor games, Monopoly, All star baseball
If the spinner stopped on one it was a home run
Electric football, play stopped when runner fell down
Ping pong basketball--snap and through the hoop
Mechanical hockey with the flip of a wrist
Fights were with fists not guns and knifes
Perverts, tell Dad, things were taken care of in a quiet ways
Oh how I remember those more simpler days
You played teams by shirts and skins
Made up teams by choosing friends.
Hide and seek--stop and go the girl next door
If you were really bored you left to explore
Pollywogs, black crickets, holding hands
