All they will ever know

How often I open my eyes to feel lost
lost to a world of hypocrisy…
the only constant being confusion.
Intellect was supposed to bring us peace;
Technology was supposed to feed the hungry;
Education was supposed to free us all;
But who among us is free?
Who among us is free of wars or famine?
Who among us is free to speak their thoughts of peace?
of freedom?
Half the world is starving!
Half the world is at war!
Every three seconds a child dies from preventable illness!
I am lucky that I was born a white man in England
So many others are born to a world of abject cruelty and hunger
hunger is all they will ever know before their young life is literally wasted away…
others are born to the sound of gunfire and mayhem
and mayhem is all they will ever know
only some of us are born to the joy of love in a loving society
and some of us suffer that same hunger and mayhem within a loving society…
so this holiday season think of those less fortunate
those that will never know…
