Who

Who reads our works,
for we never ever know,
just see the counter change
as people come and go.
Do they understand our words?
What do they really think?
Do they like our poems
or believe they stink.

Do they understand the need
to get the words just right,
or the times of writer's block
every poet's blight;
know it's not fame or riches
but the need  to explain
why we feel the way we do
and not for monetary gain.

Freedom of speech
was bought at a high cost
not to exercise it demeans
those many lives lost.
So to those many readers
who never leave their name
or tell us what they think,
thanks for calling all the same.
