Poetic-Verses

'' Who Said Honesty Pays ''

I try to live an honest life,
but it's getting even harder,
working all day for little pay,
I have no food in my larder.

I pay my rent and local tax,
one half of all my earnings,
my heating and my lighting,
they're now just distant yearnings.

If any of us suffer illness,
we just say it will pass,
we can't afford to treat it why,
because we're working class.

Yet there are people out there,
who have never worked at all,
they're allowed to live free of charge,
that really does appall.

Free prescriptions of every kind,
they drive at least two cars,
all of them have mobile phones,
new clothes to match their scars.

They're in the bookies and the bars,
every day of the week,
because I go to work each day,
I'm classed as the local freak.

We pay to keep the junkies stoned,
while the alcoholics get drunk,
the workers are now classed as dregs,
that's how low we've sunk.

We pay to keep the criminals,
in the luxury they deserve,
SKY t.v., three meals a day,
their mobiles in reserve.

As I now reflect on life,
my resources are very sparse,
I'm now about to lose my home,
this life is a bloody farce.

I asked for help to pay my way,
during this difficult time,
I was told to go away,
you'd be better off in crime.

I've worked for over fifty years,
yet I can't get aid,
if you happen to be a worker,
it's now time to be afraid.

We are robbed from every angle,
by the government and the thugs,
as we sit back they rob us blind,
while they treat us all as mugs.

On both criminals and politicians,
we can make the claim,
they are all just thieving bastards,
they're really one and the same.

now we've to bail the bankers out,
who have robbed us blind for years,
the worker's will pay for their mistakes,
it would drive you to bloody tears.

Screwed from birth until we die,
sums up this life of ours,
While they live the life of Riley,
it leaves a taste that sours.

They'd have us believe they're opposites,
yet they're so alike in many ways,
they'll rob the workers till the day they die,
