Harry Sweeden. My life in verse.

Of my time

I am of my time,
nothing more than a consequence of history
a life long ago tainted by man's past
thirsty for knowledge, unearthed only greed
and made of my future nothing but envy
born without the freedom to be,
without the freedom only wealth can bring
for all that I now am, only a statistic
of the water I need to drink
the food I need to eat
of the shelter I will need for my children.

I am of my time,
abandoned with only the truth for comfort
a truth hard fought in so many futile wars
only to be left broken by envy
envy of a future that was never mine to have
…only to dream of,
a simple future of happiness and contentment
not nightmares of each waking day to come
of loved ones… lost
of a life… now lost
of my children so very far away.
