We Answered (from on Empire)
We Answered (On Empire)
I swing wide the door with a galloping heart
To hear sundown's shameless kiss
The unapologetic caress of the sun
As it warms the ocean's west
Swimming in lavender,
The gloaming quickens
Darkness is a black panther ready to pounce,
Stalking the arc of our sky-- its stealth revealed
By the first ominous shadows
No army can hold back
Silhouettes line the walls and float away
To escape the crushing darkness
I watch you return to me
And wait for your velvet kiss
Your arms enfold me
I hear your sigh,
"Let me be your high."
Indigo blue envelops you
Your royal eyes shine
The gentle nudge of golden
Against the roof of the world
Pulses through the heavens
But your glow is all I need
To guide me safely through
Night reveals what centuries sought
Stars in waiting, anticipating
Disclosures from yearning hearts
But I wish only on sparks that burst from your eyes
I yearn to breathe your breath
Be prisoner of your tender hands
To be bruised by your pounding heart
I'd wear that wound like a medal
Yes, you are a conqueror
But we surrender delicate secrets
And manipulate fiery destinies
As the earth falls away
Salty billows revive us--
Not everyone can live by the sea
Lucky, so lucky
You belong to me
