Frightened

Frightened to wake up and see the sky screaming
the glare of the sun to strong for my eyes
dark clouds bring solace, burdened and heavy
till peace is a treasure that darkness provides.

Frightened to grow up and want to be noticed
vanity a sin for which man so often yearns
consequence accepted for lapses in judgement
but the truth is our souls will certainly burn.

Frightened to stand up and be among leaders
the glare of the lights to strong for my eyes
to many questions without purpose or meaning
and no reason an answer that unashamedly lies.

Frightened to be loved and let love be an answer
breakup means heartbreak and a void to explore
till only memories flood back of all that is missing
and echoes sing out the silence once more.

Frightened of answers that have to be questioned
trust now just a symbol of a time long ago
knowledge once gained brings only destruction
now anger and frustration are all that we know.

Frightened to be here without real understanding
the more that I understand the more that truth lies
contradiction a key that somehow eludes me
and time just a vehicle till the life in me dies.
