Advice to Children and ParentsObey your father and mother, For it is the right thing to do; Honoring them like no other, And respecting them each day through. Parents are your earthly mentors, Assigned onto you by the Lord; And so God totally deplores, If they are not loved and adored. The time that they have been on earth, Has been longer than you ever; And knows much more of your true worth, In a kinship that could sever. They help you through toils and strife, In matters that are troubling; And able to live a long life, Along with much of less stumbling. Always show them honor and laud, Be sincere while you obey; Serve them as you were serving God, Trusting their advice with each day. This is an important command, That the Lord gives with a promise; Fathers need to watch their demand, That it does not cause a bitterness. Give children Christian discipline, Along with proper instruction; So they do not repeat the sin, Or go down the path of destruction. Copyright © 2011 Richard Newton Sherrer Vote for this poem
