tomorrows

still to me the beautiful girl who
many years ago became my wife
dragged me from the brink
gave me a whole new life
this last year has been so hard
since the cancer was diagnosed
but together we've fought all the
problems that diagnosis posed
now she's fighting an infection
looking so vulnerable and small
hooked up to the drip machine
that stands beeping by the wall
but she is sleeping normally at
last and we'll just not give in
and maybe just maybe
we'll kick the odds and win
that little bit of wisdom
my late mother used to say
keep your chin up son
tomorrow's a whole new day

dedicated to my wife of 42 years on 2nd August
