INFAMOUS SEPTEMBER
Angry
flames amid
twisted carnage
raped our blue sky
with the spires of
jagged-edged girders
thrusting unmercifully
into the pale morning light
telling the unspeakable truth of
one world's violence, lost innocence
Billowing, black clouds of sadness
enshrouded a bright, shining virgin
Her fertile, blessed existence had been
untouched by the terror of such hatred;
until that one long, shattering moment
that infamous image burned indelibly
for all time into the consciousness
and hearts of humankind
But on the broken field of naivete
with her complacency and trust in her
infallibility replaced by open, raw grief,
there arose a sense of unity and conviction...
and the healing began, the indignities felt
only fuel for the resounding strength of
a nation repatrioted, arising from the
ashes shaken, but never defeated.
May all the souls of the fallen on September 11, 2001 and all
those since rest in blessed peace, knowing they were loved!
