This is a serious poem,
you say.
I was born with a frown.
I viewed my world upside down.
People ran the other way
when I entered a room,
or wanted them to stay.
I wore the vestments of gloom,
and the look of a fray.
And you will always say,
I was born that way.
I couldn't alter the looks
and how others read my books
and never wanted to linger,
but hey,
I was born that way.
A fly would never befriend
a spider.
A spider would always bite
the fly.
There's no use in polite
dinner conversation
or the slate grey of your tears
wipe them dry.
You were born this way.
You will never pass
go.
The gravy train has leapt
the tracks,
There's nothing left
for you to know,
there's no going back,
give it a rest.
You were born this way.
You need no litmus test.
Listen,
I am your Mother,
And Mother knows best.
