 Death Is Not a River

Death is not a river to cross
It is not so short a distance

I have goodbyed souls
Innocent and ancient
Knowing oceans would part us
As they set sail
Into other dimensions

And my heart tore
Out of my body
To become a shadow
A cloud above their sea
Following their vessel
Like an albatross

Arrivals and departures
No longer kept by time--
Scheduled by a greater power
Than we will ever grasp

In the distance
They greet an arising
While here
I descend into weeping

from Lachrymose
January, 2010
