LITTLE ONES

LITTLE ONES

*__________*

Innocent one, allow me to ask of you,
"How does starvation feel"?
And please, tell me of things you
Endured beneath the Nazi heel

------------------*

Eyes without life, an emaciated shell
Clothed in the pain of Hitler's curse.
How many were taken; how many fell
These little ones, without song or verse

*------------------

Arbeiten macht frei across the gate
Of Hitler's demonic insanity;
Maniacs controlling their fate
Inside Buchenwald's inhumanity..

------------------*

Innocent one, allow me to ask you,
"How does the cloak of terror feel"?
As you hide behind the mask you
Wear, your horror to conceal

*------------------

Do not allow such barbarities to dim
Forget not the faces of the grim reapers
We must be on guard never letting them
Suffer; after all we are their keepers

------------------*

Look not at their color, faith or reason,
For the young ones can not fight.
Give them an hour, a day and a season
Little angels framed in God's light....

*------------------

Come now little ones and take my hand,
Let me blanket you from all fear,
Lean on me as we take a stand
And pray that others will join us here
