THE EVERLASTING VIGIL

Photobucket

In Washington DC there's a most special place
There's a vigil 24 hrs. a day 7 days a week
At Arlington National Cemetery for veterans

It's hallowed ground for deceased warriors
Where these brave men lie at their final rest
From Generals down to the enlisted personnel

These patriots who had served all of us
In peace time and in battles for freedom
They had served us their nations citizens

When the call was given to defend freedom
They bravely left all behind to go fight
These warriors are who kept you & me free

On Memorial Day as a 3 day holiday starts
With your barbecues and your celebrating
Take some time out to remember those lost

To recall that these long deceased warriors
Gave up all of their own tomorrows for you
So you can live in and enjoy your own freedom

Memorial Day is their only day of recognition
They'll never enjoy their own families again
They'll never see their own children grow up

They gave you the greatest gift they could
Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness
Yet they themselves will never enjoy that

All across our nation from sea to shining sea, from the big cities
to the small town cemeteries there are millions of patriots who
have died serving our nation defending our rights and freedom
since our nation's birth. They've always responded throughout
history when they heard the call to serve our nation and defend
all of her citizens and our allies in times of conflict and wars.
