 A Senior Moment
Walks rare but few are taken now
As age crept up and time allows
A tour of sorts along hallway
The sights taken upon pathway

You see faces that wheel along
Upon their chairs, some not so strong
They sit as if waiting for one
One to come, daughter or son

You were there to bathe them when
They were just babes and played pretend
Now it seems visits become
Far less leaving if just someone

Your told to please go to your room
As if a child sort of curfew
Imposed upon adult who drew
Just one conclusion now old once new

Time once yours is on their watch
Routine mundane each day is such
Younger with age, as crawl some do
Fetal positions yet to be you

You reach for words to tell someone
How it feels to be no one
As fossils go, you too now are
The rock of ages, a fading star

Attire yours becomes slippers
As old bath robe on body withered
Worn like you, a need near shouts
I want to go home in hall about

You wheel further closer to door
That grants freedom yours now implores
As guard sits by front desk and says
Sorry grandpa here you must stay

You turn yourself around slowly
As breath becomes the last and only
Breathed seeking freedom from here
This place called home, not yours held dear

Photobucket

and so you dream standing nearby
A bed of water as ship slips by
Hoping to board, leaving this place
Escape now yours, not to be traced
