parts were parts
sum totals
never added up
you never learned the math
of me
or us two
you never let
my sunshine
sift into your eyes
you couldn't find a
truth
in the stark light
of day
I didn't have your number
baby
you never had mine
you missed the pluses
saw the minuses
miscalculated the percentages
the bottom line
you had
no time
it wasn't that you
couldn't do the numbers
unless of course it
multiplied the odds for you
is it a small wonder
you've found success
only in
business
not in the
grounded world of
daily truth
you were all about the business
and when the business got
only just tepid warm
your careful way of not caring
did so much
docile harm
i'm afraid i lost my inherent value
and you misplaced all your charm
too many diminishing returns
your hands may have gotten burned
though the business of you
was ice cold.
