Tell Three Truths, Then One Lie

tell three truths
then one lie
tell the three worst ones
then make em guess at the end
which is which
which is the why
is it a writing exercise?
is it a an exercise in life?
is it a test of character?
can you throw the bait n switch
turn the bolt, flick the knife?
tell three truths
then one bold lie
tell the lie like it fits
tell it like they'll never guess
match wits
and which part of you matches the mess
the ilk that makes us all up
like we make it all up sometimes
everyday
as we go along to get along
til we get a little more truth serum
til the most fragile of lies make us feel strong
til we find someone who really might
listen
to us
in that way
and for the way
we truly are
maybe we'd leave it at the three truths...
take the one lie and seal it within the jar?
still I gotta try it
so here it goes...
you figure out the riddle
you see if the lie's slip really shows...

1) my Pops was a golden gloves boxer who
could run faster backwards than we could run forwards.
2) my Mum was a beauty queen who never liked
   looking in the mirror
3) my brothers were favorites, one the favorite of my Pops
the other, the favorite of my Mum
4) I'm an orphan, have been one all my life

so I've told three truths,
then slipped in one sleek lie
mixed 'em up in this tilt-a-world
see who can figure out the line?
but is there really one lie in there
when the lie has rightful feelings attached
no, perhaps its not the exact truth
but in it
some real truth
has been laid and
is hatched
