I am a contradiction

I am a contradiction
In everything I do
I know what's right but seldom choose
the pathway to the truth
I contradict my feelings
throwing love right out the door
then wonder why I'm all alone
and just what I'm living for?

I am this contradiction
my story bares the scars
from a small scared boy I learnt to fight
though I hated this by far
till I stood atop the mountain
and wondered at the view
for there was no joy in getting there
and now what would I do?

My life's a contradiction
born of thirst and gain
and the love I loved that kept me warm
just turned to nought but pain
till knowledge would only scare me
the more I learnt … a sin
I knew not truth nor understood
this strange place that I'm in.

I now better understand my feelings
and each new contradiction known
will only light a pathway
on the journey I must go
till all life's contradictions
will bother me no more
when I close my eyes and sleep again
and my mind stops keeping score.
