Still Crying

I’m the son of a drunken, gambling man
and my mother, bless her soul, is long gone
Brothers and sisters I did have, but the drunken
gambling man abandoned us all in thirty six

In the house of madness
my young life was filled with
 deprivation, cruelty, aggravation,
 desperation, depression, fear and loneliness
I thought the nightmare would never end, but
time cures all they say, if that is so, pray tell
why am I sitting here tonight…
 crying at eighty?
