Preparedness

Those who have
Coleman lanterns
are the ones
who will survive
(ingenuity will
inherit the earth)
not the ones
who will burn down
whole houses
for their light
it doesn't take
a sledgehammer to
drive this point home
or at what points
life would have or be
rendered moot or meaningless
then
when
you and I
are no better than
nocturnal
animals
bumping around
simply trying
to stay alive
survive.

Oh what a beautiful world we had.
Oh what little it took to f##k it up.
Preparedness.
