I AM THE FLAG

I’ve been named Old Glory
But the glory isn’t mine,
 Because I represent a nation
Whose foundation is divine.

If I am seen as patriotic,
This is just a part of me.
  Please consider my connection
To God and Christianity.

Writers of the Constitution
Were Bible believing guys.
Their every quote or speech
Contained some sort of Godly ties.

 Hands stitching me together…
Sewing on each star and stripe
Did believe in a Creator...
So far from the Godless type.

Search for religious freedom
Led to this country’s start.
So when you are addressing me
Hands should be upon your heart.

I should be firmly planted
In the soil of every soul.
And I should be proudly waving
At the top of each flagpole.

But, let me say, I’m not The Cross
And pledges to me not a Creed.
Your allegiance should be first to God
For He supplies your nation’s need.

Be loyal and patriotic but be
Aware of wrongs committed.
Government is not infallible
And idolatry is not permitted!

I'm proud to represent America…
Her creation and her birth!
The land that states In God We Trust…
The greatest place on earth!

Dedicated to Janie
Who was born on Flag Day

Mark 12:17
Then Jesus answered and said
to them,
“Render to Caesar the things that are
Caesar’s, and to God the things that
Are God’s.” And they marveled at Him.

~~AUTHOR”S NOTE~~
I was asked about our flag being maybe worshipped.
I want to be clear that I do not consider flags to be
inherently evil. Flags are useful as marks of national identification,
symbols of national ideology, and banners of solidarity.
Even in Scripture we see where God's holy nation of ancient Israel
used flags for such purposes (Numbers 1:52, 2:2-25).
Therefore, I am NOT saying that we should  ever show disrespect
to a country or flag; what I am saying is that
we should keep a balanced view on the matter. I love my country,
her flag, and her people....but I do place Jesus Christ above all...
and my loyalty lies with Him first. I do not worship the flag. I worship
God...and I honor the flag because it's a symbol of my country.

Each man must for himself alone decide
what is right and what is wrong, which course
is patriotic and which isn't.  You cannot shirk this
and be a man.  To decide against your conviction
is to be an unqualified and excusable traitor,
both to yourself and to your country,
let men label you as they may.  ~Mark Twain~
