    Farewell to Arms
On a distant hill, daisies, daffodils
 and tulips too
sunshine, summertime and
 skies so blue
Big oak trees, meandering
 streams and Sunday afternoon
with homemade ice cream
An old covered bridge, cherry wine
and watermelon rind, teenage lovers
on a blanket, under the shade of a
tall sycamore tree… first and last time,
Oh! How sublime

War always takes the young at heart
Wars come and wars go
Where is peace, no one knows
Lonely mothers cry as taps echoes
soft through the distant hills
Little flags of Red, White and Blue
Like sentinels stand two by two
White crosses row by row
Red poppies nearby grow
Tic toc time, life is but a rhyme
The winter snow piles deep and the
 sun no longer shines,
time has long passed...
Farewell to Arms at last.
