OUR BACKYARD SUMMER RETREAT
Swinging slowly on our backyard swing set
As the summer breezes gently blow by me
With sunbeams dancing through the leaves
Throwing whimsical patterns across the lawn
The bright blue sky with a few white clouds
Taking time to enjoy the wonders of summer
The drifting smoke from a neighbors barbecue
With mouth watering scents waifing slowly by
These moments we all treasure in our lives
Sipping a large ice tea on the shaded swing
Feeling the warmth of the dancing sunbeams
A few wind gusts blowing through your hair
There is also our remodeled three season porch
With a ceiling fan to keep things nice and cool
Savoring these moments that make summer so great
Winter had been a very long one this past year
Through it all we dreamed of these warm moments
When summer would rescue us from the bitter cold
But if we could only choose just one season here
It would have to be the beautiful Michigan summer
Ever since my youth I have treasured it most of all
For no matter where we go to or have been to before
Our own home state seems to always be the best place
And it's even better in our very own backyard retreat

Just some thoughts about our own summer retreat in
our very own backyard here in Southern Michigan.
