THE DANCING LIGHTS ENDED THE VC THREAT QUICKLY

Photobucket

There was this brilliant glow of the lights
As these flares danced across the night sky
Swinging as they had dangle from a parachute

Multiple lights turning night into daytime
Having been dropped from a circling plane
Now exposing the enemy's hidden movements

Suddenly machine guns begin to chatter away
As the guards manning the gun towers fired
Their tracer rounds arcing out at a target

Then there's no sound except that of the plane
They'd done their jobs turning night into day
And another Viet-Cong threat was quickly ended

The VC never seemed to learn from these lessons
That if they had tried to breech our perimeters
They would surely die in their attempts to do so

They thought the Air Force had not trained us well
That they could easily overrun our defensive posts
But as they quickly found out they had been wrong

During the entire war in Vietnam, no base that was
defended by U.S. Air Force Air Police and later on
the U.S. Air Force Combat Security Police had ever
been overrun by the Viet-Cong or North Vietnamese
forces who attacked our air bases in Vietnam. It's
a testament to their professionalism and their own
determination that they'd hold their ground even if
the odds were stacked against them by these enemy
combatants who were just as determined to destroy
us and our air bases and aircraft, they never did
overrun any air base during the numberous attacks
they had made.
