A Letter to My Old Friend
Yesterday, O’ yesterday,
I thought yesterday would never end,
but they quickly passed with each and every sin
Yesterday I was a young and foolish man
I wasted my yesterdays on pipe dreams
and rainbow schemes
I thought I could count the stars and
someday fly a spaceship to Mars
The castles of sand I built, washed
away with the never ending tides of time
My memories of yesterday are fading with
the last grains of sand from the provable hourglass
If only I could have captured time in a bottle
I thought after all these years, I would have the
wisdom of Solomon and have all the answers to
all my questions , but in vain
At eighty, I still wonder, who am I…
for you see my old friend, yesterday…
is now just dust in the wind.
