Between arrival and departure,
The walk to and from the car
Through unexpected crowds
To the small cafe coffee bar,
To sit at the small table,
Enjoy the hot sweet drink,
Engage in conversation and,
In the gaps, just to think.
The coffee drunk slowly
Came the need to move on,
Hours shrunk to minutes,
To seconds, to an afternoon gone,
Passing seemingly
Before it had even started
So that we only just met
And then we were to be parted.
Sunlight paths built
To shimmer and disappear
Such an ephemeral creation
We're they ever really here.?
A pleasant interlude promising
Things that may come to be,
Slotted between two walks, two
Promenades by the sea by the sea.
