 Wide Eyed Clueless

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There we were, two bright eyed children of the universe
Ready to take the world by storm or go down trying.
After all, it belonged to us or so said the powers that be
It was laid out before us just waiting for you or me
We would run like the wind, we would always be first
We were Earth's prodigy children made for high flying....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Voraciously we fed our appetites on all types of knowledge
Soaking up all subjects major and minor, away we flew
Clarity of vision physical and mental fueled us on
We were strong, invincible, sprinting into the unknown
Leap-frogging through high school and on into college
With finest of teachers, our wisdom and intellect grew....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then one sunny day we broke on through to the other side
Knowing all but knowing nothing about the world around us
No clue how to deal with people on a level of understanding
They looked at us as if we were showing off, grandstanding
We began to wonder, had the intelligentsia taken us for a ride
Bewildered and unprepared even for the back of the bus....
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So it's back to a different school, the school of hard knocks
The education leading to compassion for one's fellow man
I won't snow you with lies about how the system failed us
It was up to us to be alert, to detect what it was that ailed us
We should have adjusted the speed of our internal clocks
We didn't know there was no finish line in the race we ran....
