Those who committed murder were
Sentenced to death as it were,
Possibly by firing squad, hanging
In some places stoning or flogging,
Also lethal injection or electric chair,
None of which we would wish to share.
It still goes on to this very day
Not to the same extent I daresay,
Some countries have abolished it
And give a jail sentence as seen fit,
Then there`s others who sit on death row
Awaiting an appeal hoping to be let go.
They are given their execution date
All they have to do is sit and wait,
They know on what date they will die
For a stay of execution they will try,
If it fails their final walk they`ll take
Peace with their maker they try to make.
They`ve had time to tie up loose ends
But it`s far too late to make amends,
They`ve said all there is to be said
Can`t say it once they are dead,
Date was set and the time`s arrived
Of their life they will now be deprived.
But they are not alone Oh no!
For we all at some time have to go,
One day we will all draw our last breath
That`s the day we enter the clutches of death, We all live under a death sentence
Our date unknown we`re left in suspense.
So now what do you deduce from this
Do you take note or just dismiss?
Put your house in order I would say
Never leave things to another day,
Say the things you know you ought
Put in order the things you should sort.
Finish things that you`ve begun
Never leave anything undone, We never know just how or when And we`ll never have our time again,
Patch up any quarrels you`ve had
Or any regrets will make you feel sad.
Like the felons we will surely die
Death is something we can`t defy.
The difference is we don`t know the date Otherwise I`m sure we`d all try to be late.
